About me:
Hello, I’m Ahmed El-Zaghawy, an Egyptian graphic designer specializing in logo and visual identity design, having more than 9 years of experience. I breathe, eat, and live design. My passion for design is much more than sitting at a computer making ugly things look beautiful. Design is to inspire and broaden minds
with my work.
I have always wanted to work in creative fields like design because I don't enjoy routine work and prefer fields that rely on thinking, creativity, and innovation. Indeed, I found what I wanted in in the field of logo and visual identity design.
When I entered the design field and started designing for clients, over time, I noticed that my designs were taking on a routine shape according to the design rules I had learned. No matter how different my clients' fields were from each other, I always felt that I was designing in the same style and pattern for all clients. This point always made me feel that my designs were lacking a lot. And that's where the problem was.
My favourite quote in art has always been the quote of the Italian artist Picasso: "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist." It is the most motivating, powerful, and inspiring saying for any artist. Unfortunately, in the midst of being busy with designs for clients, I was only applying the rules, and all my designs were turning towards a purely commercial look. This made some of my designs, at times, boring to the eye and not as strong as some other designers whose work always impresses me.
Therefore, as a brand designer, I needed to set a strategy for myself that would always guide me in the right direction in my work and be more clear.
Adhering to design rules is good, but it is essential to add artistic touches that break them and break the constraints of the designer or artist. There is a famous saying, though I don't know who said it, but it is remarkable: "Normal is boring".
